The Bankside Winter festival brings the spirit of the Frost Fair and Christmas to London with ten days of entertainment and festive fare. The Frost Fair in London has been part of the winter celebrations for many hundreds of years, and this modern interpretation reflects the markets that were held on the Thames in the depths of winter when the river froze over. Around 30 to 40 arts and crafts stalls, will be selling last minute stocking fillers, jewellery, fine ceramics, wooden Christmas gifts, leather and fossil goods and other handcrafted items. To ward off the chill from the River Thames there will also be several outlets selling delicious festive food and mulled wine to keep you warm, and a main bar selling wine and ale. To open the Bankside Winter Festival and the Frost Fair itself, a Frost Fair themed lantern parade on Friday 12th December at 4.30pm, in which approximately 270 school children take part. The lantern parade will start at Bernie Spain Gardens, continue via St Pauls Cathedral and Southwark Cathedral and end outside Tate Modern; a Frost Fair lantern scene will remain on display until the end of the festival. On Saturday 13 December there will be celebratory procession of Traditional Thames Cutters carrying the Frost Fair flags on the River Thames between Southwark and Blackfriars Bridges, starting at 11am The Livery men will disembark at Bankside Pier and parade along the Bankside Winter Festival area in full uniform. The Bankside Winter Festival takes place 10am - 7pm Monday to Wednesday, 10am - 8pm Thursday to Saturday, and 10am - 6pm Sundays. The markets run from Friday 12th December - Sunday 21st December 2008, and the Frost Fair parades take place at 4.30pm on Friday 12th December and 11am Saturday 13th December.

These twice-a-year fairs have been running since 1950 and are prestige events in the antique world’s calendar. The organisers have faced the fact that they cannot compete with larger venues in the display of ‘brown furniture’ or big items, and therefore this will be a festival of the finest small antiques. Expect some exquisite pieces on display at the launch of this new, delicate format. The next Chelsea Antiques Fair is from 25th to 28th March 2009.

This is an international event for all motor vehicle enthusiasts in the historical north London landmark in Alexandra Palace. The show is on in the beginning of November every year. With hundreds of vintage, Edwardian, veteran, classic, prestige and rare vehicles on show, this is a show that shouldn’t be missed. The show includes practical demonstrations, trade opportunities and cars for sale.

Just to put you in your place next time you\'re a bit tipsy and fancy a spin round the floor, the International Ballroom Dancing Championships features the best dance talent in the country in competition at the Royal Albert Hall. The International Ballroom Dancing Competition will take place in October 2009.

Kids Week in London takes place every year in late summer. Children go for free to all participating shows during Kids Week when accompanied by an adult paying full price. The Olympics will be held in various areas around London, the majority of the hotels that are on offer are all located in main areas which the Olympic Games might take place.

London\'s biggest open air theatre in the summer. Famous for Sheakspeare performance - Midsummer Night\'s Dream, musicals and children\'s play. On sunday evenings they host a series of comedy and concerts.

The annual London International Horse Show at Olympia is one of the highlights of the equestrian year and attracts all the top names in the sport. The show includes show jumping, dressage, dog agility, the Shetland pony Grand National and a Grande finale. The Lord Mayor\'s Show is an annual London event, takin place every second Saturday in November. More than 6,000 people of all ages take part in the three mile long procession.

The Times London Film Festival is presented annually by the British Film Institute. It is the largest public film event in Europe, screening 280 films from 60 countries. The festival presents the best of new film and offers opportunities to experience enjoy and discover more about the world of film and television. Landmark Christmas event in London. This year the 62nd Christmas tree comes to London from the city of Olslo as a token of friendship and gratitude for Britain’s assistance during World War II. The tree will be decorated in traditional Norwegian style. The lighting of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree includes a programme of festive events, some of which are ongoing until Christmas Day, including carol singing and more. After the lighting ceremony, the tree lights will be turned on from noon until midnight each day throughout the Christmas season. The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree will be lit on Thursday 4th December 2008 at 6pm, the tree will remain at Trafalgar Square until 2nd January 2009. The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships, hosted in London, is the most famous grass court tennis tournament, taking place every year during a fortnight in June/July.
